Wiley College has named Jameus Hartsfield as head men's basketball coach. He was moved up from assistant coach to the departed Andre Payne. Payne has accepted the men's head coaching position at Mississippi Valley State.
Hartsfield will be taking over a team that finished last season with an overall 25-7 record (13-5 in Red River Athletic Conference play). The Wildcats finished as conference champions.
Hartsfield had been an assistant coach since 2009 and looks forward to a smooth transition.
“We’re getting almost all of our guys back from last year and we’ve added height to our team,” he said. “I’ll be working on establishing myself and getting our guys used to hearing my voice and familiar with my game plan, but other than that, it will be a very smooth transition.”
He is an alumnus of Texas College where he played for Coach Payne and was named Conference Defensive Player of the Year in his final season with the Steers.
