HUNTSVILLE – Alabama A&M Men's Basketball Head Coach Willie Hayes has announced his resignation, effective immediately.
Hayes, who played at Alabama A&M, was head coach for six years and accumulated a record of 53-118.
Hayes also served for 16 years as former coach Vann Pettaway's top assistant following a stellar career as a player for the Bulldogs.
In 116 games as a player, Hayes averaged 14.6 points,2.5 rebounds, 5.8 assists and 2.0 steals per game.
During his senior season, Hayes averaged 24 points, seven assists, and five rebounds per outing. He finished his playing career with 1,688 points in the Maroon & White.
"We thank Coach Hayes for his service and commitment to Alabama A&M University," Director of Athletics Bryan Hicks said. "We wish him the best in his future endeavors."
A search for a replacement will begin immediately.
