Texas Southern men's basketball coach Mike Davis is leaving to become head coach at the University of Detroit Mercy (UDM).
"Coach Davis has informed us that he will be stepping down as head coach here at Texas Southern University. Since arriving at TSU Coach Davis has helped establish a basketball program that has consistently competed highly on a national level year in and year out," said TSU Vice President of Athletics Dr. Charles McClelland in a statement on the school's website.
"The championship and postseason banners that currently hang in our arena will only tell part of the story of the outstanding legacy he leaves behind. We wish him and his entire family well in all of their future endeavors."
UDM Athletics Director Robert Vowels and Davis both have connections to the SWAC. Vowels served as SWAC commissioner for four years before he departed for the NCAA in 2007.
Davis was hired at Texas Southern in 2012.
