The State newspaper in Columbia, S.C. has reported that Benedict College head football coach James "Miké" White has been let go.

HBCUGameDay.com has published that Cedric Pearl is no longer head football coach at Central State University.

White came to Benedict five years ago with much fanfare following a successful stint at Albeny State where he spent 30 years leading the Golden Ram program that had 13 straight winning seasons. At Benedict, he took over a team that went 19-30 under the previous head coach and after a memorable 7-2 recocnst cedric pearlPearlrd in 2017 and 6-3 record in 2018, the Tigers struggled in 2019 and finished 1-9 squashing hopes for a run at the SIAC's Eastern Division title.

He told The State newspaper that he isn't looking forward to coaching anytime soon. The plan for right now is to get myself together,” he said. “I don’t plan on doing anything, just trying to sit back and concentrate on me for a little while.”

Pearl had served at Central State's coach since 2014 after 13 seasons as an assistant at Alabama A&M University.

In his first two seasons, Pearl helped re-energize CSU's program with 4 wins in his first season and 5 wins in 2015. Prior to Pearl’s arrival, CSU had totaled 9 combined wins in the previous five seasons. Under Pearl, the Marauders recorded a 5-5 overall mark in 2018 and a second place finish in the SIAC West Division - the best finish since CSU joined the SIAC. In addition to bringing CSU back to respectability, Pearl and his staff helped developed 11 All-Conference selections, 6 Super-Region selections and 1 AFCA All-American.

During his six years at Central State, Pearl finished with a 19-41 overall record.
