The Wichita Black Chamber of Commerce says the goal is to highlight diversity throughout the state of Kansas and the region and to bring people together. The theme for the event will be “Unity Builds Community.”

The event will begin with a college admissions day on Friday (Sept 6). On Saturday, there will be performances by local high school marching bands and admission tables from Wichita State, McPherson College and Langston University. Former Wichita State head football coach, Willie Jeffries, will also honored at halftime by former players.

The winner will receive a trophy that they'll get to keep for the year until the teams meet up again the following year.

The matchup showcases two of the best teams from the Sooner Athletic Conference and the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference. The Lions and Bulldogs are led by fourth-year head coach Quinton Morgan and first-year head coach Jeremiah Fiscus respectively.

This will be the first time the Langston Lions and McPherson Bulldogs have met on the gridiron.

"We're thrilled to be able to compete against one of the premier football conferences in the NAIA with our matchup against McPherson College," Langston University president, Dr. Kent J. Smith, Jr. said. "Historically, Langston University has prided itself on our non-conference portion of our football schedule and this matchup is no different. One of our goals every year is to make the playoffs, but we strive for a national championship so we're very diligent as an institution in who we schedule as non-conference opponents."
