Lincoln University, Pa. – Lincoln University, a member of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) has announced its 2019 football schedule.lincoln lions2019

The Lions, who finished 1-9 overall and 1-6 in CIAA games, will have four home games in 2019 along with six road contests. The 2019 season will be the Lions 12th since reviving the program back in 2008. Football began at Lincoln 125 years ago in 1894 when the Lions played Howard University in the first collegiate football contest between two black colleges in the north.

The Lincoln Athletics Department plans to have several events commemorating the 125th anniversary of football at the university.

"Our program is definitely looking forward to the upcoming 2019 football season," said Head Coach Josh Dean. "I am excited about the opportunity to measure our growth as a program against a very competitive schedule. We have over 18 players returning that either started multiple or all of our games last season, including our players that received all conference and all rookie recognition."

Lincoln will play the non-conference portion of their season on the road with three games starting with Lock Haven University on September 7. This will be the first meeting between these two teams since the 1948 season.

The following weekend (September 14), the Lions will travel to Dover, Delaware to renew their series with Division I FCS school Delaware State University. The two teams met regularly when Delaware State was part of the CIAA and have not played each other since 1960.

The Lions will close out the non-conference portion of the schedule playing in the Inaugural Gary Football Classic in Gary, Indiana. The Lions opponent in the game will be a familiar foe as they will face Kentucky State University. The two teams will get to write another chapter in the legendary CIAA/SIAC interconference rivalry. Lions Head coach Josh Dean spent three seasons as the head coach of the Thoroughbreds from 2013-15.

"It will definitely be a special opportunity for our program to play in the Inaugural Gary Football Classic in Gary, Indiana against Kentucky State University," adds Dean. "I will always be thankful for my four years in Frankfort as an assistant and head coach at KSU. I still have several friends that I consider family that still work there, so it will be good to see them. Beyond that it will be business as usual and another opportunity for our players to represent Lincoln University with honor in pursuit for a victory."

The Lions will hold their home opener and begin conference play on September 28 as they take on Livingstone College in the first of four home CIAA contests.

Lincoln will return to Lions Stadium for their homecoming game against Virginia Union University on Oct. 12. The game will be 46th meeting between the two squads dating back to 1916. The Lincoln-Virginia Union series is Lincoln's oldest among the current CIAA schools.

The football team will host Virginia State University on October 26 and close out their 2019 season with their Senior Day game against Chowan University on November 9.

Three road contests are also part of the Lions' conference schedule, beginning with Johnson C. Smith on October 5. Lincoln will also travel to Elizabeth City State University (October 19) and Bowie State University (November 2)

All game times will be announced at a later date.
